Hallo Welt! The time has come to finally get started on my blog for Germany. Starting in March I'll be spending 5 months in Europe on an exchange program between UMass Amherst and Uni Heidelberg. On my trip I hope to keep a running record of everything and anything I do there, from travel to classes, I'll hopefully be covering a wide range of topics to keep the blog flowing.
Just recently, meaning yesterday, I had my 20th birthday. A few friends got together and bought me one of the weirder joke gifts I'd ever received, a creepy Ken doll. Normally something like that would just end up missing in a room never to be seen again or even mentioned. This time, however, my creativity took hold. I've seen a million travel blogs in my time, and each time, they seem to be pretty similar. They consist of some stories about what somebody did in a country for a few days and some interesting things they saw and then that's basically it.
I wanted my blog to be a bit different. This afternoon, while sitting on my laptop, with the creepy doll staring at me from across the room I came up with an idea. I should just take the doll with me to Germany and catalog all the adventures that I go on making sure to include pictures of the doll in any and all situations that seem appropriate for a travel blog.
The next step was finding out a name, so I took the challenge to facebook. After a few responses, and wanting to stay with the German theme, I decided to go with my friend Owen's suggestion of Wolfgang. Thus begins the adventure of Wolfgang und Eric in Europa.
Now that the Fall semester at UMass is coming to an end the only thing left to do is get my plane ticket and i'll be on my way in March to Germany. So Until there are further updates I leave you all with the first of many pictures of Wolfgang und mich. :)
